Hillbilly Chess, The Bastard Pawn is a remarkable memoir of resilience and liberation. A gut-wrenching look into a family thriving with dysfunction, dishonesty, and a brutal way of life. Adopted within the family, Peggy survived physical, psychological, murder attempts and incestual molestation, all before she turned nine.
This chain of events sent her into a world that many never return from. From an abused child to a runaway teen and a married 15-year-old girl becoming a mother, she embarked upon a world of drugs, alcohol, and an exotic lifestyle, meeting unique people along the way; she gained friends and strength while embracing hardships.
Still controlled and tortured by the family that should be there for her, she is taken back to her molestation, learning her rapist now has more family victims.
Peggy is passionate when drafting her story sharing her journey unrestrained. Exposing unimaginable upheavals, this heartfelt memoir follows Peggy’s entry into this world and into adulthood and her quest to find freedom. And through this dramatic recollection of her unsettling encounters and painful memories, Peggy adds humor and grace to her journey of hardships in discovering the human soul’s resistance while liberating herself from a family that was anything but a family.

A thrilling tale sprinkled with humor, a dash of murder, and dark secrets that will bind three best friends forever—or so we hope!

On a serious note, I’ve known Cheryl and Kelly for 42 years—met them in Jackson, MI, at a club where we all worked long after hours. We’ve shared countless laughs and wild times, enough to make our story deserving of a crazy twist, told with humor and just a hint of murder. Of course, everything is fiction (well, we did have some fun times some of that might be real with a twist). I’ve finished the first short novella and plan to spin out six in the series—my very first! Can you tell how excited I am about creating this series?

My main characters are myself, Peggy, Cheryl, and Kelly. All real names, but beware—the storylines have wicked twists, and again, it’s all FICTION (or is it?).

I won’t give away too much, but here’s a sinister teaser: Peggy’s a stripper (ha!), and Cheryl and Kelly are waitresses hiding secrets darker than the night. And then there’s Chico, the bouncer—Jackson County’s finest. He’s a hottie with a mean streak, capable of taking down a guy in a heartbeat. Secrets, laughs, danger—these three besties are forever linked, or are they?

Want to know more? I’m planning to have this series out by Christmas 2027. Yeah, it’s a ways off, but hey, writing and making stuff up is a wild ride—challenging but a whole lot of fun!
